Hayfield baseball team slips past WEM

The Hayfield baseball team had just one hit, but it found a way to beat Waterville-Elysian-Morristown (5-4 overall) 2-1 in Riverland Monday.

The Vikings (8-2 overall) scored both of their runs without getting a hit. Brady Nelson scored on a double steal to give Hayfield a 2-1 lead in the third inning and Easton Fritcher walked and scored on a a passed ball in the first inning.

Brady Nelson held the Bucs to just one run as he scattered six hits.

Minnesota State commit Biadyn Bartelt struck out 14 for WEM, which had beaten Hayfield 13-1 in the season opener on April 4.

“We found a way to win against a very good pitcher,” Hayfield head coach Kasey Krekling said. “He’s as good as you’re going to see in high school baseball.”
