Celine “Mae” Schechinger, 91, of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at Grand Meadow Senior Living.

Celine Mae Kohorst was born on June 18, 1927, on the family farm in Wheatland Township, Carroll County, Iowa, to Joseph and Mary (Steinkemp) Kohorst. She attended Saint John’s Catholic School until eighth grade, after which she stayed home to help out on the farm. On Jan. 12, 1949, Mae was united in marriage to Earl Schechinger in Arcadia, Iowa. The couple raised two sons. Mae was a school cook for Adams High School and for Southland High School. She also cooked at many restaurants, including the Hitching Post and Johnny’s Main Event. A member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Austin, she also loved cooking, family get togethers, going out to eat with family, and loved to make pies. Mae enjoyed outdoor events, the Fourth of July, barbeques, watching the weather, and going fishing with Earl on Madison Lake in Waterville, Minnesota. Mae will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her sons, George (Sue) Schechinger of Adams, Minnesota, and Joe (Kim) Schechinger of Austin, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Craig, Angela, Kayline and Kristine; two sisters, Jean Lawler of Carroll, Iowa, and Betty Lawler of West Side, Iowa; brother-in-law, Carl Schechinger of Hutchinson, Kansas; and sisters-in-law, Marvel Morales of Mexico City, Mexico, Viola Berning of Carroll and Betty Schechinger of Carroll. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Kohorst; husband, Earl Schechinger, in 2012; brother, Vernon (Nola) Kohorst; sister-in-law, Betty Schechinger; and brothers-in-law, Bill Lawler, Fenton Lawler, Donald Schechinger and Larry Berning.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Father James Steffes officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Monday, April 8, 2019, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Austin. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
