2019 Richard Eberhart Poetry Contest winners announced

Despite the spring storm that resulted in the poetry contest readings’ cancellation, the winners still had their moment to shine.

The 2019 Eberhart Poetry Contest winners were announced by the Austin Public Schools District on Monday via social media. Since the Night With Our Poets event scheduled for last week was cancelled because of inclement weather, prizes will be delivered to the winners at their schools during the next few days.

Each year, the Austin Public Education Foundation sponsors the program with financial support from the Eberhart family in honor of Richard Eberhart. The poet was born in 1904 in Austin and graduated from Austin High School in 1921. He was a Pulitzer Prize winner for his work and was a recipient of the National Book Award for poetry in 1977.
