Maxine Marjorie Higgins, 98

Maxine Marjorie (Runden) Higgins, 98, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2019, at Westview Care Center in Britt, Iowa.

Maxine was born on Dec. 17, 1920, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to George and Cora (Hagen) Runden. She attended Albert Lea High School, graduating in 1939. In April of 1938, Maxine met Robert Higgins; they were engaged on Christmas Day 1939 and were united in marriage on July 13, 1940, in Northwood, Iowa. To this union, two children were born: son Thomas and daughter Carol. Maxine was a loving wife, mother, and homemaker. The family took yearly fishing trips up north and traveled to all 50 states. Maxine and Robert also traveled to Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Maxine was a member of the St. Olaf Lutheran Church, where she was active in WELCA, Circle 5, and the Alter Guild. She was also a member of the Hormel Retirees and the Golden Age. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Ann (Steve) Olson of Wesley, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Pat Higgins of Austin; seven grandchildren, Kristen Kiecker, Kelly Olsen, Michelle Peterson, Gina Nelson Higgins, Angela Higgins, Shannon Olson and Scott Higgins; 16 great grandchildren, Shea Kiecker, Tayte Kiecker, Cristian Olsen, Cassandra Chadwick, Onna Peterson, Grace Peterson, Cassondra Nelson, Amanda Nelson, Matthew Nelson, Ryan Petievich, Rayna Petievich, Jake Petievich, Duel Higgins, Duncan Higgins, Asia Higgins-Lewis and Thomas W. Higgins; three great-great grandchildren, Kashlyn Kiecker, Aviana Kiecker and Charles Chadwick; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Cora Runden; husband, Robert, in 2008; son, Thomas Higgins, in 2017; and one brother, Ellsworth Runden.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin.
