Man charged with drug possession

An Austin man arrested Wednesday after police allegedly found drugs at his residence appeared on Friday in Mower County District Court.

Luis Prado Acosta, also known as Jose Luis Acosta, Luis Prada Acosta, Jose Manuel Osuna-Noriega, Luis Prada-Acosta, and Luis Prado-Acosta, 46, was charged with felony first-degree drugs-possess 100 grams or more of methamphetamine.

According to the court complaint, law enforcement executed a search warrant on Wednesday at Acosta’s residence in the 500 block of Seventh Avenue Southeast. A woman answered the door and law enforcement located Acosta in the kitchen. A juvenile male was also at the residence.

The following items were found and seized at the residence:

  • Acosta’s cell phone;
  • A brown wallet containing $207;
  • $6,950 cash from a safe; and
  • Approximately 260 grams of methamphetamine.

A review of Acosta’s criminal history shows a prior conviction out of Freeborn County for cocaine possession. The complaint also states he has been deported from the United States several times.

Acosta will appear in court again on April 4.
