Letter: A world for grandchildren

Published 8:20 am Wednesday, March 20, 2019

This past weekend my grandson and I watched bald eagles fly over a corn field. When I was young this would not have been possible because the use of DDT had almost caused the extinction of these magnificent birds.

People who possessed common sense and concern for our environment enabled changes to government policies that allowed these symbols of our nation to once again thrive.

We are seeing these positive actions once again with Gov. Walz’s One Minnesota Path to Clean Energy— a set of policy proposals that will lead Minnesota to 100 percent clean, carbon-free electricity by 2050. This time we are not just facing the loss of a symbol of our great country. We are facing the loss of our current environment due to climate change. By  ensuring access to reliable, sustainable, and affordable energy, the results will be a healthier, cleaner environment.

I sincerely hope that some day my grandson can stand with his grandson and watch bald eagles fly over a corn field. If we do not act now to save our environment it may never happen.

Sincerely,
