Herbert Henry Krause, 89

Herbert Henry Krause, 89, made his journey into heaven on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, surrounded by his family.

He was born on May 23, 1929, in Owatonna, Minnesota, to Dora Abbe and Herbert Rudolph Krause. He married Patricia Maile on June 17, 1951, and they enjoyed 67 years together.

Herbert started working at age 13 on the railroads in the summer. He left high school to join the U.S. Army Air Corps at 17. He spent three years in the service and was on Okinawa for two of those years. He was proud of his service to his country. He started at the Owatonna Free Press

newspaper under the G.I. Bill as a linotype operator. He worked at the Austin Daily Herald as a computer adman creator for 31 years before retiring to spend more time traveling and playing golf. He and his wife Pat loved to play golf, fish and see family in Minnesota summers. They had a trailer at Evergreen Lodge for many years. They traveled a lot and settled near Palm Springs, California, and spent summers only in Minnesota. He helped start an Archery Club in Owatonna and Austin, Minnesota. He enjoyed the archery range practicing and camping with the family, playing the guitar, the harmonica and singing. He played golf daily in California until his health declined, and he still was on the course daily putting and chipping. He survived a serious illness last summer and the doctors at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, saved his life. He was recovering nicely when cancer hit and took his life.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Krause; son, Michael Krause, and his wife, Sherry; daughters, Laurie Hirth and Jill Brua, and her husband, Rick Brua; seven grandchildren, Amy Miller, Angie Quasbort, Bridget McCarthy, Ferrin Hoffmann, Taylor Hirth, Andrew Krause and Dillon Hirth; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald (also known as Bing); sisters, Evelyn, Leona and Delores; and two infant daughters, Penny and Pammy.
