The Vikings are looking for a veteran quarterback, and one is coming to visit.A source said Thursday that free agent Sean Mannion will visit Minnesota on Monday. Mannion played the past four seasons with the Rams.

The Vikings have wanted to find a veteran to compete for the backup role since losing Trevor Siemian to the New York Jets last week in free agency. Siemian played behind Kirk Cousins last season.

Kyle Sloter, the third-string quarterback in 2018, told the Pioneer Press last week that he is “more than ready” to assume the backup role behind Cousins. Vikings coach Mike Zimmer, speaking to reporters Tuesday at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix, did not rule out Sloter moving up on the depth chart but spoke of wanting to have options in competition for the role.

“We’d like to have a veteran if we could, but we’re not going to rule out bringing in a rookie or Kyle,” Zimmer said.

Mannion, the Rams’ third-round draft pick in 2015, played with the team as a rookie in St. Louis and for the past three seasons in Los Angeles. Mannion, who turns 27 on April 25, has appeared in 10 regular-season games, starting one, and has completed 33 of 53 passes (62.3 percent) for 258 yards.
