Alfred R. Pehl, 97, died Thursday, March 7, 2019.

He was born on Jan. 22, 1922, on a farm close to Clarion, Iowa. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and became a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps, teaching aerial gunnery during World War II.

Al farmed in Iowa and Minnesota. He loved flying, did crop dusting and sold real estate along Interstate 90.

Al was a devout Christian man who lived his faith, preached, memorized scripture and read through the Bible many times. He is safe in the arms of his Savior.

He is survived by Elner (Thomas) Pehl. They had four children: DeLoris Kinny (Rodney) of Austin, Minnesota, twin sister DiAnne (deceased 2002) (Joseph) Humrichous, Ronald Pehl (Elizabeth) of Ames, Iowa, and Russell Pehl (Phyllis) of Rochester, Minnesota. He had 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will at held 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at Faith Church, 1800 12th St. SW in Austin. Visitation will be held one hour before the service on Thursday at the church. Lunch will be served in the youth building across from Faith Church. Interment will be in Clarion at a later date. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
