The Southland girls basketball team put forth a big effort on the boards to pick up a 68-48 win over LeRoy-Ostrander in Adams Monday.
The Rebels (5-14 overall) led by as many as 34 before they benched their starters and they out-rebound the Cardinals 60-24.
Lexi Smith had 18 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and two steals for the Rebels, who have lost ten games by single digits this season.
“We haven’t had the greatest season so far and we were ready to go out there and show our fans what we can do,” Smith said. “It’s been frustrating losing so many close games and it’s been eating us up inside.”
Kelsey Mensink added 14 points and 13 rebounds for Southland.
Kate Helgeson had 20 points, six rebounds and three rebounds for the Cardinals (6-13 overall) and Haley Hungerholt had 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
