2 Austin residents injured in crashes

Snow and ice on roads contributed to two crashes with non-life threatening injuries on Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol accident report, the first accident occurred at about 5:43 p.m. on Tuesday in the eastbound lane of Interstate 90 in Hayward Township, Freeborn County near milepost 165.

A 2000 Saturn Station Wagon, driven by Artemio Ortiz Aguilar, 54, of Austin, and a 2006 SAAB 95, driven by Todd Michael Ehret, 62, of Lyle, were heading east on Interstate 90 when they collided.

Gold Cross Ambulance Service, the Albert Lea Fire Department, Hayward First Responders and the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene.

Aguilar was transported to Mower County Health System-Albert Lea with non-life threatening injuries. Ehret was uninjured.

The second accident occurred at about 8 a.m. on Wednesday at milepost 35 on Highway 63 in Rochester. The State Patrol report states a 2001 Honda Accord, driven by Joseph William Weikum, 53, of Austin, was northbound on Highway 63 when it lost control and entered the ditch, striking a brick wall.

Minnesota DOT and Gold Cross Ambulance Service responded to the scene.

The Honda’s passenger, Ralph Glenn Brownlow, 46, of Austin, was transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus-Rochester with non-life threatening injuries. Weikum was uninjured.
