KSMQ Public Television to present live choral concert broadcast

KSMQ Public Television will present a live broadcast of the performance of the Luther College Nordic Choir from Knowlton Auditorium in Austin later this month.

The live broadcast can be seen on KSMQ beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26. KSMQ’s President and CEO Eric Olson will co-host the broadcast with Brian Johnson, retired choir director of Austin High School.

“The Nordic Choir is one of the finest choral ensembles in the country with an outstanding reputation for excellence,” Olson said. “The group has not performed in Austin for many years and we are thrilled to be able to partner with Luther College for this special broadcast.”

The concert program includes “Praise the Name of the Lord” by Sergei Rachmaninoff, “Pater Noster” by Jacob Handl, “Psalm 50” by F. Melius Christiansen as well as hymn arrangements, spirituals and the traditional Nordic Choir closing piece, “O Lord God” by Pavel Chesnokov.

Besides the live performance on Jan. 26, KSMQ will rebroadcast the concert at the following times on its primary channel, KSMQ 15.1:

  • Noon, Friday, Feb. 1
  • 9 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2
  • 6 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 3
  • Noon, Monday, Feb. 4

Due to music copyright laws, the concert will not be posted online. Public broadcasters are not permitted to post music concerts to their multimedia portals. For this reason, the television broadcasts will be the only way for people to see the concert, short of attending in person.
