A neighboring house was evacuated after it caught fire on the side, but firefighters were able to extinguish it quickly, Naatz said.

Ellendale and Hayfield firefighters also responded to the scene, as did the Steele County Sheriff’s Office, Blooming Prairie Police Department and Blooming Prairie Ambulance.

No injuries were reported. The owner of the residence was not home at the time.

The residence is a total loss and Naatz estimates about $10-$20,000 worth of damage was done to the neighboring house.

The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
