Winter weather advisory in effect; Snow, icy wintery mix expected

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for 9 a.m. on Saturday until noon on Sunday.

According to the NWS, a mix of precipitation will spread into the area starting Saturday morning. There could be a mix of precipitation at the onset as the precipitation moves in from the south, but mainly snow is expected across southern Minnesota into west central and north central Wisconsin.

Several inches of snow are expected by Saturday evening, especially from south central Minnesota into central Wisconsin, mainly along and north of Interstate 90. The winds will also increase and could cause some drifting at times, especially in open areas.

Icing could occur with the wintry mix, with accumulations up to 1/10 of an inch possible, especially Saturday morning. Untreated roads and sidewalks could become very slippery.

Travel will be impacted, and the NWS warns to be prepared for slippery to hazardous driving conditions.
