The Austin boys swimming and diving team fell to Rochester Century 90-88 in Bud Higgins Pool Thursday.

Austin junior Riley Norton ended up taking second place against the Panthers in diving, but the two-time state qualifier wasn’t bummed out. In fact, he was motivated.

Norton finished with a score of 180.35, while Century’s Kurtis Froyd won the event with a score of 192.85.

“I look forward to the defeats, believe it or not,” Norton said. “If I don’t get first place right away, that just shows that I have room for improvement which everybody always does. If I win every single meet, that’s not going to be any fun. I like finding the mistakes and fixing them.”

Norton is working on some bigger dives that he hopes to be able to use towards the end of the season when the really big meets come.

“I have the dives, they’re just not legal yet. I just need a little different approach to make them legal and hopefully I can use them,” Norton said. “Practices have been a little slower this year because we have more people on the team and I’m OK with that.”

The Austin 200-yard medley relay team of Aaron Knoll, Logan Kelly, Rafe Dolan Peterson, Trey Myers took first.

Kelly took first in the 100-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke.
