Missing teen spotted on surveillance video

A teen that has been missing from Gerard Academy since Friday evening was seen on surveillance video shortly after Gerard Academy staff lost sight of her.

According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, police received footage of 16-year-old Gracie Schlomann from Kwik Trip No. 250 on 10th Place Northeast. The footage was taken within the hour after she went missing; however, it is unclear where she may have gone next. Police have since contacted other businesses to review their surveillance videos.

Originally from Woodstock, Minnesota, Schlomann went missing at about 7:36 p.m. on Friday, the last time Gerard Academy staff saw her in the wooded area near Gerard Academy and the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center.

Schlomann’s father told police that she has gone missing before, but for no more than a few hours before contacting someone, and that being missing this long was “out of character” for her.

Police initially set up a staging area in the woods near the Nature Center, but the search in the woods was called off after police saw the footage, according to Krueger. Missing posters are still up in Austin and outside agencies have been alerted to Schlomann’s disappearance.

Schlomann is described as a black female standing 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing 197 pounds. She was last seen wearing a navy blue sweatshirt, black leggings, and black and white Jordan shoes. Schlomann’s father said she has been known to frequent churches.

Anyone with information on Schlomann’s whereabouts is urged to call the Mower County Law Enforcement Center at 507-437-9400.
