Robert Leroy Marshall, 43, of Adams pleaded guilty to felony domestic assault by strangulation as part of a plea agreement on Tuesday in Mower County District Court.
According to the court complaint, law enforcement was dispatched on Aug. 4 to a residence in the 300 block of Water Street in Adams. They made contact with Marshall, who was intoxicated and shouting at a juvenile about a missing $50 bill. They also made contact with a woman at the residence who was visibly upset. Marshall said, “Yeah, I’m going to jail tonight” because he “choked” the woman because she was hitting him.
The woman told law enforcement that she came home at 10 p.m. that night and found Marshall in the garage with another juvenile, the complaint states. She said she got upset about the juvenile not being in bed and Marshall told her to “shut up.” She then confronted him about taking care of kids when he was drunk, saying he was drunk when she spoke to him on the phone earlier in the evening.
The complaint states Marshall started choking her with both hands, then placed her in a “choke hold.” The woman said she had difficulty breathing and was unsure how long he strangled her. She also said one of the juveniles tried to intervene and he “elbowed” her away.
Marshall will be sentenced on May 9.
