Helen V. Halverson, 85, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, at Our House Senior Living.
Helen Virginia Wood was born Dec. 28, 1932, at home in Delavan, Minnesota, to William Everett and Sarah (Terry) Wood. She attended grade one through six in Rose Creek, Minnesota, grades seven and eight in Austin, then graduated from Lyle High School in 1950. Helen was married in September 1950 to Ronald Halverson. The couple raised three children and later divorced. She worked for Austin Outdoor Advertising for 25 years, starting as a secretary and working her way up to sales. Helen retired in 1994. She belonged to Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Lyle, Minnesota, where she shared a 16-year friendship with Pastor Barb. After moving to Austin in 1974, Helen enjoyed casinos, auctions, collectibles and her beloved cats. She spent the last four years of her life at Our House Senior Living, with the assistance of Heartland Hospice. Helen was a hard worker and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her children, Diane Harry of Rochester, Minnesota, James Halverson of Lyle and Steve (Kathy) Halverson of Ellendale, Minnesota; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her special friend, Ruth Collette. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Barbara Finley-Shea officiating. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Woodbury Cemetery in rural Lyle. Memorials can be directed to recipient of donor’s choice.
