Faribault man gets prison for DWI

Troy Arthur Leeper, 45, of Faribault was sentenced on Thursday in Mower County District Court to 57 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud for felony first-degree DWI-under the influence of a controlled substance. He received credit for 287 days served.

Judge Christa M. Daily issued the sentence.

According to court documents, Leeper was arrested during a traffic stop on Feb. 23 after a Mower County deputy observed his 2000 Oldsmobile Alero fail to stop at a stop sign at County Road 2 and County Road 61. The deputy observed Leeper’s pupils were constricted. When asked what kind of drugs he had taken, Leeper said prescription medication. Leeper than failed two of four field sobriety tests.

According to court documents, a methamphetamine pipe was found in the vehicle and deputies took a blood sample from Leeper for analysis at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension laboratory.

A review of Leeper’s criminal history shows prior convictions for DWI, assault, possession of a controlled substance and violating a domestic assault no contact order.
