The Austin girls hockey team had a tough time getting going in the early minutes as it lost to Red Wing 4-2 in Riverside Arena Thursday.

The Wingers (2-2 overall) scored two quick goals to go up 2-0 in the first period and Austin never was able to tie or take the lead. Jordyn McCormack scored to pull Austin within 3-2 in the third period, but the Packers couldn’t get the equalizer.

“We came out a little bit slow and we picked it up at the end of the first,” Austin head coach Carley Grunewald said. “We got the pace up, but we kept having to play the catch up game. They never stopped battling.”
