Suspect arrested in Ankeny’s robbery: Second suspect still at-large

A 16-year-old Austin male who police believe is connected to a Sunday night armed robbery at Ankeny’s on Oakland Place was taken into custody on Tuesday.

According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, police arrested the teen at 8:44 a.m. on Tuesday at an Austin residence. The teen was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center in Rochester.

Police were called at 9:50 p.m. on Sunday about a robbery at the Ankeny’s at 1205 Oakland Place SE. Clerks reported that two suspects, both light-skinned black teen males with thin builds and their heads and faces covered, entered the store and demanded money and several items. One suspect was described as standing about 5’ 8” tall and wearing glasses, while the other was described as slightly shorter and carrying a black semi-automatic pistol, according to police.

Krueger said the teen has not been forthcoming and police are still looking for the second suspect. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Mower County Law Enforcement Center at 507-437-9400. Reports can be made anonymously.
