children. In 1970, she starting working at the Austin High School in the library, retiring in 1997 after 27 years of a job she loved. Lois loved to travel and in 1998, shortly after her retirement, she traveled to Scotland and Ireland. She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin, where she sang in the choir and volunteered visiting with church members who were shut-ins or residents of area nursing homes. Lois was also a member of the Retired Secretary Association, Mower County Senior Center, Red Hat Club “Crimson Cuties”, and bowled; she was the captain of their “sisters” team. She loved music, especially harmonizing, dancing, playing 500, writing poetry, reading, and would contribute articles to the Austin Remembers book. Lois also liked to visit and have coffee, especially with the “teachers training” gals, and enjoyed planning class reunions and family reunions. She was a kind and loving mother and friend. Her children would hear her humming; she always had a song in her heart and a smile on her face. Lois will be dearly missed.
