Volleyball: Packers carve out a five-game win over Falcons

The Austin volleyball team proved to be relentless against Faribault as the Packers won two must-win games to beat the Falcons (7-11 overall, 3-4 Big Nine) in five games by scores of 25-18, 28-30, 23-25, 25-22, 16-14 in Packer Gym Tuesday.

The Packers (5-14 overall, 2-5 Big Nine) were fighting an up-hill battle when they dropped games two and three and they also trailed 13-11 in the final game after leading it 6-1 early on.

“It was a such a good game. We knew we needed to win that fifth set,” Austin senior setter Jenna Braaten, who had 47 set assists and 20 digs in the win, said. “There were a lot of times when we needed to pick each other up and I think that helped us a lot. I’m really proud of our team because Faribault has been really tough on us the last couple of years. It was nice to beat a team that people weren’t expecting us to win. It shows how much we’ve improved.”

Elyse Hebrink racked up 26 digs for the Packers and Jordyn McCormack had 11 kills and 21 digs.
