Vernon Gene Walterman, 69, of Rochester, Minnesota, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at St Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Vern was born in Spring Valley, Minnesota, the son of Elmer and Evelyn (DeBoer) Walterman. He graduated from Spring Valley High School. He was united in marriage to Nancy Trabert on March 16, 1974, in Rochester. He started working at Crenlo and later moved on to Waters Instruments, where he worked 20 years. He also worked for Geotech until September 2018. Vern was a hard worker and enjoyed watching the 5 p.m. news.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; sons, John Walterman of Rochester and Steve (Jessica) Walterman of Byron, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Dylan, Bailey, Gracie, Devon and Liam; brothers, Raymond (Cheryl) Walterman of Mocksville, North Carolina, and Ronald (Marilyn) Walterman of Racine, Minnesota; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Dick (Phyllis) Trabert of Eagan, Minnesota, Pat (Dayton) Younger of Rochester and Alvin Trabert of Rochester.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Gerald Walterman.

The funeral service for Vernon will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with the Rev. Maurice E. Hagen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.
