Oliver Ferdinand Thoe, 94, passed away on Sept. 27, 2018, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield, Minnesota.

Oliver was born on April 21, 1924, in Hayfield, the son of Alfred and Emma (Gulbransen) Thoe. He graduated from Hayfield High School in 1942.

Oliver was united in marriage to Virginia Schultz on June 27, 1948, in Rochester, Minnesota. Over the years, Oliver worked at REA, American Linens, Farmers Co-op, Land O’Lakes, farmed and was a Vernon Edna Insurance Agent. He served on the Hayfield Fire Department and was fire chief in 1980. Oliver served on the Hayfield Chamber of Commerce, Hayfield Pool Committee, Trinity Lutheran Church Council and usher, and was a Hayfield Santa Claus. He was a life-long Hayfield School sports fan and friend to everyone.

Oliver is survived by his wife, Virginia Thoe, Hayfield; children, Patti (Charlie) Miller, Owatonna, Minnesota, Paul (Cathy) Thoe, Hooper, Utah, and Mark (Deb) Thoe, Superior, Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings, Donald (JoAnn) Thoe, Sargeant, Minnesota, Norma Bjork, Rochester, Wilma (Ralph) Kyllo, Hayfield, Clifford (Euphemia) Thoe, Humble, Texas, and Harriet (Noel) Redalen, Chatfield, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Steven and Brad; one great-grandchild, Connor; and two brothers, Ronnie and Ralph.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 First St. SE in Hayfield, with the Rev. Paul Hauschild officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 Second St. NW in Hayfield, and one hour before the service on Wednesday at the church. Inurnment will be in West St. Olaf Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hayfield.
