Janet Kathryn Borchardt, 87

Janet Kathryn Borchardt, 87, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2018, at Primrose Retirement Community.

Janet Kathryn Smith was born on March 20, 1931, in Austin, the daughter of Ray and Laura (Hustad) Smith. She graduated with the class of 1949 from Austin High School. Janet then went on to attend Austin Junior College, graduating in 1951. On May 8, 1954, she was united in marriage to Howard Borchardt in Austin. Together the couple raised four children. Janet worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for over 25 years. She was the president and treasurer of the hospital auxiliary at the Austin Medical Center, and belonged to the Austin High School Alumni and Friends. Janet was also an active member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church where she was in the choir, Northwestern Singers, and Second Edition. She loved to be with her family, especially her grandchildren, and attended every event she could. Janet will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish Janet’s memory are her children, Brenda (Mark) Ehrhardt of Arlington, Washington, Martin (Ramona) Borchardt of Woodbury, Minnesota, Kathryn (Rick) Jundt of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and Kevin (Lynn) Borchardt of Rogers, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Ehrhardt, Samuel Ehrhardt, Zachary Ehrhardt, Elizabeth Jundt, Caroline Jundt, and Andrew Borchardt; and brothers, James Smith and Ralph Smith. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Laura Smith; her husband, Howard in 2014; sisters, Carol Oppegard, and Peggy List; and her brother, Ray Smith.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, 2018, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Niethammer officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7  p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin.
