Prolonged rainfall has resulted in a flood watch being posted for southeast Minnesota and northern Iowa.

The watch continues through Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service in LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

Those who live near rivers and streams should be prepared for rapid rises and possible flooding due to the prolonged rainfall.

Heavy rainfall, combined with the already-moist soil conditions, is expected to result in rising water levels.

A flood watch means there is potential for flooding based on current forecasts.
