Raeburn J. Hanson, age 85 of rural Waltham, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at Our House Memory Care in Austin.

Raeburn was born Oct. 27, 1932, in Austin, Minnesota, the son of Corrie and Ruth (Bagley) Hanson. He graduated with the Austin High School Class of 1950 and made his living as a farmer. On March 27, 1953, he was united in marriage to Patricia Arett at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin.

Following his marriage, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1957. Raeburn loved making his living off the land, and his wife Pat was his best hired hand on the farm.

He was a ‘jack of all trades,’ able to take on and complete many different projects. Raeburn and Pat enjoyed traveling together. They made two trips to Alaska, visited Germany, France, Switzerland and Norway, and spent their winters traveling south in their RV.

Raeburn restored many tractors and showed them in many shows and fairs over the years including the Mower County Fair. He was a very active member of the Red Oak Grove Cemetery Board, and belonged to Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church where he helped with many projects. He also served on the Mower County Pork Producers Board. Raeburn was a dedicated family man and will be missed dearly by his family and many friends.

Survivors include his wife, Pat Hanson of Waltham; his son, Gary Hanson of Austin; two grandchildren Jessica (Christopher) Stewart and Jared Hanson, both of Austin; one great-grandchild Bristol Stewart; his sister Charlotte Braaten; brother-in-law Dean Johnson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Raeburn was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Shirley (Lloyd) Jan, brothers-in-law Dale Braaten and Richard Arett, and sister-in-law Priscilla Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 11  a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church with Pastor Lindsay Brennan officiating. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m., immediately preceding the service. Interment with military honors will be in Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery.
