Joel David Ide, 52

Joel David Ide, 52, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, at the Murray County Medical Center in Slayton, Minnesota.

Joel was born on May 17, 1966, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to David and Leone (Weckwerth) Ide. He graduated from Austin Christian Academy in 1984, attended the Austin Community College and graduated from Mankato State University with a bachelor of science in accounting. Joel married the love of his life, Brenda DeGolier, on June 27, 1987, at Church of the Open Bible in Austin.

He began his career as a cost accountant with MICO, Inc. in Mankato, Minnesota. In 1988, he returned to Austin and started working at Accentra Credit Union, where he ultimately became senior accountant. In 2016, he began working at the Fulda Area Credit Union, where he remained until his death.

His life was spent serving others. He was a faithful member of the Living Bible Church, where he was involved working and leading wherever he could. Joel was instrumental in starting a mission project in Piedres Negres, Mexico, where he joyfully went to serve every two years for over a decade. He not only served his church, he immersed himself into the community, serving on the Fulda Historical Society and the Fulda Community Club. His booming voice was a great asset to the Fulda Community Club Players. A devoted family man, Joel was always at their events. Wherever Joel saw a need, he was faithful to fill it.

Joel was not tall, but he was supportive, generous, devoted, friendly, caring, loud, laughing, and talkative and stood grander than his height.

He was preceded in death by his father, David Frederick Ide; and his grandparents.

Joel is survived by his wife, Brenda Ide; Austin; daughter, Marissa Ide and fiancé Kyle Linnett, Austin; son, David Ide, Austin; mother, Leone Svelmoe, Albert Lea, Minnesota; brother, George (Terry) Ide, Owatonna, Minnesota; sister, Tami (Rick Maher) Ide, Monticello, Minnesota; his favorite mother-in-law, Donna DeGolier, Austin; nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, at Cornerstone Church with the Rev. Paul Juntunen officiating. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and for one hour before the service on Thursday at the church. Interment will be at Grandview Cemetery.
