Francis A.O. Bungum, 95, passed away peacefully on Sept. 11, 2018, in the presence of family at the family home in which he was born in Dodge County, Minnesota.

He was born Nov. 6, 1922, the son of Oscar and Anne (Mogen) Bungum in rural Hayfield, Minnesota, on the farm where he spent his entire life. The farm was homesteaded in 1881 by his grandfather, who immigrated from Nomedahl, Norway. He was baptized and confirmed at Evanger Lutheran Church of Sargeant, Minnesota, where he remained an active member. He attended a country school. In 1943, he took over the family farm, the same year he was united in marriage to Marion Nereson of Byron, Minnesota. They were married for 75 years and farmed and raised their family together.

Francis is survived by his wife, Marion; his five children, Galen (Marcia) Bungum, Hayfield, Michelle Bungum, Rochester, Minnesota, Marcia Jane (Jerry) Hutchinson, Byron, Barry (Rita) Bungum, Brownsdale, Minnesota, and Brian (Brigid) Bungum, Denver, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Anne Bungum; two sisters, Marion Alrick and Pearl Gulbransen; and an infant grandson.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at Evanger Lutheran Church, 33554 660 Avenue, Sargeant, MN, with the Rev. Dwight Dobell officiating. Visitation will be from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday before the service at the church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
