It’s all about the red and white.

Austin High School kicked off its Homecoming Week with a pep rally on Friday afternoon. More than 1,400 students gathered in the Packer Gymnasium and pumped themselves up for a week of celebrating their school spirit and hometown pride.

With a whirlwind of the high school’s pep band, cheer-off of the four separate classes, and the announcement of dress-up day themes, Homecoming Week is one of the most anticipated weeks of the year for students, said Principal Andrea Malo.

“(Homecoming) is always filled with spirit,” Malo said. “We look forward to it every year, and our students come together and compete with each other in games, and get bragging rights for the entire year. Today’s nothing compared to next Thursday.”

“I’m really looking forward to bonding with our grade, and hanging out with this group (of nominees),” Guttormson said. “It’s going to be a bonding experience.”

“Ditto,” Hinchcliffe said.

From this group of eight, two seniors will be crowned as Homecoming King and Queen on Wednesday, Sept. 19 during coronation, followed by Battle of Connects and the Distinguished Alumni assembly on Thursday and the Homecoming Game against Faribault for Friday night.
