A night of laughs at the Paramount

Published 7:01 am Saturday, September 15, 2018

Comedy lovers will be rolling in the aisles at the Paramount Theatre’s Comedy Showcase on Saturday, Sept. 22.

It’ll be like a return to the building’s short life as “Snicker’z” comedy club in the 1980s.

The 2017 Minnesota’s Funniest Person, David Harris, will headline the show. He is a nationally touring, two-time Midwest-Emmy-Award-winning comedian, magician, actor, and host.

Based in his hometown of Minneapolis, Harris performed in the 10,000 Laughs Festival two years in a row. Harris has even starred in commercials and videos for Panchero’s Mexican Grill and Robert Half International. Harris’ act is fun, relatable, creative, interactive and most of all,  hilarious.  For more information on Harris visit www.davidharrislive.com

Also featured for the evening is the very funny Ben Marcotte. Marcotte is from Hutchinson, Minnesota, and moved to the Twin Cities metro in 2015 to further pursue stand-up comedy. Since then, he’s performed all across the Upper Midwest and won the Boss’ Comedy Club Tournament of Champions in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A professional by day, comedian by night, Marcotte will share stories and insights from the mind of an everyman that will make you be grateful that you don’t have to go to the same exact company picnics or family reunions as he does. While he is a master storyteller, Marcotte’s true skill is not being caught by his boss while typing this bio at work. It was close — twice.

Guesting for the evening is comedian Leo Lindstrom. Leo is a native and current resident of Austin. He’s been performing for a couple of years now and is quickly learning the comedy ropes. A funny guy by nature, Leo is quick witted and quick to self-deprecate.

Still riding high after his surprising role in this summer’s production of “Chicago” at Summerset Community Theatre, comedian and actor Chris Anderson of Austin will host the show.

Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 day of show and are on sale now at www.austinareaarts.org. This show contains adult content and is recommended for ages 18 and over.

Caravan du Nord

Caravan du Nord rolls back into Austin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct.27, with SIMS from the Doomtree Collective and R & B songstress Mina Moore. Caravan du Nord is presented by 89.3 The Current and the Minnesota Music Coalition.

Because of grant funding, this show has a market value of $25 and over but is available in Austin for just $10. Tickets are on sale now at www.austinareaarts.org.
