LYLE — The Lyle-Pacelli volleyball team showed that it’s down for the fight as it made a solid push in a four-game loss to Kingsland Monday night.

The Knights were able to take the match by scores of 25-16, 20-25, 29-27, 25-22, but it certainly wasn’t due to lack of effort by the Athletics.

L-P (0-2 overall, 0-2 SEC) led the second game by as much as 21-7 and it led the third game 24-23 after Olivia Christianson put down a block-kill, but the Knights were able hang around and finish off the pivotal third game. LP trailed the fourth game 21-17 before rallying back to tie at 22-22, but Kingsland scored the last three points of the night to take home the win.

“I was very pleased with the way the girls played,” LP head coach Tammy Truckenmiller said. “They didn’t give up and they were moving all around the court. I think they’re finally finding where they’re supposed to be at.”

Christianson finished with 21 kills and nine blocks and Lucy Nelson added eight kills and 11 digs.

The Athletics looked a lot sharper than they did in a three-game loss to Houston last week and senior setter Abby Bollinberg, who had 36 set assists, thinks the team is starting to come together.

“We’re just looking in practice to get reps for the girls. Vanessa [Cotter is] really good out there in the outside and Whitney [Walkup] was outstanding in the middle tonight. I’ve never seen her play better. It was amazing,” Bollingberg said. “It was a huge stride from where we were last Friday. We’re going to get back to the gym tomorrow and hopefully cut out those errors that we had tonight.”
