Duane W. Klingerman, 93, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2018, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus-Rochester.

Duane William Klingerman was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Spring Valley, Minnesota, to William C. and Helen E. (Miller) Klingerman. He attended Austin High School. On June 30, 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army, joining the 26th Infantry Regiment of the First Infantry Division (the Big Red One), and proudly served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged on April 27, 1946, with the rank of Pvt. First Class. Following his service, he worked at Hormel Foods in Austin for one year. On Feb. 22, 1948, Duane married Jeanette Wold. The couple later divorced. On May 16, 1948, Duane began his career as a police officer for the City of Austin. On April 19, 1963, he married Joy Burdine. They later divorced. Duane retired as a police officer on May 16, 1994, after serving for 46 years. He was a very active man who enjoyed bike riding, golfing, walking and visiting with family and friends. Duane was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Austin. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish Duane’s memory are his children, Sandy (Fran) Skinness of Austin, Greg (Anne) Klingerman of Lake Crystal, Minnesota, Lori (Steve) Scott of Austin, Curt (Kathy) Klingerman of Sunman, Indiana, Bill Klingerman of Austin and Joann Klingerman of Rose Creek, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren, Julie Skinness (Brian Bronner), Brad (Amy) Skinness, Chad (Molly) Klingerman, Stacy (Eric) Holm, Janet (Dennis) Williams, Kristie (Steve) Dennison, Tara Scott (Terrance Plath), David (Jessica) Klingerman, Joshua (Kimberly) Klingerman, Judd  Klingerman, Adam Klingerman and Max Klingerman; 13 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kaeden, Jacob, Jack, Madison, Mathew, Hannah, Logan, Daniel, Brooklyn, Nate, Abishai and Josiah; one great great-grandchild, Tyler; special family, Tim Rodgers and family, Cara Downing and family, Sara Flicek and Angie Paris; and a community of people who loved and respected him, and he loved them. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen Klingerman.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018, at Grace Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Patrick Ziems officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, at the Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and will continue on Saturday for one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors by American Legion Post 91 and V.F.W. Post 1216 will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin.
