Best Bets: Go visit next door to Mower County for some fair fun

The Mower County Fair is just around the corner, beginning on Tuesday, Aug. 7. Until then, those seeking some fair fun can head west to the Freeborn County Fair from now through Aug. 5.

Advertised as “The Six Best Days of Summer,” the Freeborn County Fair has a variety of fun things to do to help with the wait for the Mower County Fair.

The Grandstand will feature country singer Dylan Scott at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 2, rock and roll acts April Wine, Warrant and Kip Winger at 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, and three-time Grammy-nominated country star Trace Adkins at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4. The Grandstand will also be the site of the demolition derby at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5.

Entertainment Square will feature the following acts:

• Thursday: The Farnum Family – from the Missouri Ozarks, 4-5 p.m. and 6-7 p.m.; Ariel and Aaron Winter, 7-8 p.m.

• Friday: Holly Ryks, 4-5 p.m.; Full House Band, 6-8 p.m.

• Saturday: Matt’s Family Jam – from Nashville, Tennessee, 2-3 p.m. and 4-5 p.m.; Dunell Lenort, 3-4 p.m.; Ron & Steve Unplugged, 6:30-7:30 p.m.

• Peace Garden Concert – Dang Ol’ Tri’ole, 6:30 p.m. at the Hormel Historic Home. Enjoy the music of this 6-person bohemian folk group from the Twin Cities. Having played together seven years, members have honed their skills to demonstrate fluency at their respective instruments through complex melodies, dense compositions, improvisational soloing and dynamic presentation.
