Alumni Update: Area grads stepping up in fall sports

VOLLEYBALL

Austin grad Kelsey Sederquest and Hayfield grad Savanna Cordle have begun their junior seasons at Waldorf University.

Cordle had three kills against Dordt College and eight kills and four blocks against Briar Cliff and Sederquest had two digs against Dordt and six digs against Northwestern at the Northwestern tournament. The Warriors have started the season with an 0-4 overall record.

Hayfield grad Maggie Streightiff has appeared in one match early on in her freshman season at Upper Iowa. Streightiff has one block and one kill for the Peacocks (3-1 overall).

Hayfield grads Carrie Rutledge and Lexi Dudycha have established themselves early in their first season with Rochester Community and Technical College.

Rutledge had 10 kills and seven digs in a three-game win over Itasca and Dudycha had 13 digs in that win.

Both players have played in all four matches for the Yellowjackets (3-1 overall). Rutledge has racked up a team-high 59 kills to go along with 39 digs and Dudycha has 33 digs.

SOCCER

Austin grad Abel Gebrekiros is off to a strong start in his second season at Iowa Lakes Community College (2-0-1 overall). Gebrekiros has tallied a goal, which was a game-winner, on five shots.

CROSS COUNTRY

Southland grad Peter Torkelson started his sophomore season at Hawkeye Community College by taking sixth place overall at the Region XI Time Trials recently.

Torkelson finished with a time of 17:34 in the race.
