Those looking to get involved in the decision-making process for the Austin Public Schools District may have an opportunity this election season.

Four seats will be up for election on Nov. 8, according to the district officials.

There will be an informational session at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 11 in the district’s office. Those interested in filing for the upcoming elections are encouraged to attend, according to Sharon Alms, administrative assistant. Superintendent David Krenz and School Board Chairwoman Angie Goetz will conduct the meeting and answer any questions regarding the responsibilities members will have.

Each open position has a four-year term. Four seats will be up for election, including those now held by Goetz, Peggy Young, Don Fox and Kathy Green, according to officials, and the filing period will start on July 31 and will run until Aug. 14.

Green served five terms, Fox served three terms, Goetz served two and Young just finished her first term.

These filing periods are open to the public, and officials from the Krenz’ office said anyone who had an interest in being on the school board was encouraged to attend the informational session next Wednesday. This meeting will also help address questions or concerns, as well as provide information about the time commitment and other responsibilities a board member would have if elected.

Those attending the session are asked to enter through door No. 3 on the northside of Austin High School. Signs will direct individuals to the conference room.
