The Vision 2020 Community Pride and Spirit Committee will be kicking off its Moonlight Movie Night program on June 30.

Moonlight Movie Night allows the public to watch movies outdoors at various locations in Austin. This year’s program was made possible by a donation from First Farmers & Merchants Bank.

According to Vision 2020 Community Pride and Spirit Committee Chairwoman Barbara Oehninger, residents were able to vote on their movie choices via a survey posted on Vision 2020’s Facebook page.

“We try to get different genres,” Oehninger said, pointing out that this year’s movies feature an animated film, a classic film and a new film.

Movies being shown this year are:

• “The Lion King” – Saturday, June 30, at Shirley Theel Memorial Park

• “Back to the Future” – Saturday, July 28, at Todd Park (by the soccer field)

• “Wonder Woman” – Friday, Aug. 24, at Bandshell Community Park

All showings will begin at 9 p.m. and are free to the public. Viewers are invited to bring their own blankets, chairs and snacks.

“It’s a great way to get together with other community members and enjoy the parks,” Oehninger said. “It’s an affordable way to enjoy the movies.”
