According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, Austin police received a call at 11:59 a.m. on Saturday from witnesses saying they saw a possible medical event occurring in a vehicle. They were unable to give a location, but Austin firefighters found the vehicle in the 200 block of 24th Street Southwest and were rendering medical aid to the driver, Evans, when police arrived. A 4-year-old male was inside the vehicle.

An empty alcohol container was found outside the vehicle, according to Krueger. A preliminary breath test issued to Evans allegedly showed her as having ingested almost twice the legal limit. Police obtained a search warrant to acquire a blood sample.
