Alicia Yevtte Evans, 31, of Austin was charged on Monday in Mower County District Court with gross misdemeanor DWI-operate motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, misdemeanor driving after revocation of her license, misdemeanor open bottle law, and petty misdemeanor vehicle registration required.
According to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger, Austin police received a call at 11:59 a.m. on Saturday from witnesses saying they saw a possible medical event occurring in a vehicle. They were unable to give a location, but Austin firefighters found the vehicle in the 200 block of 24th Street Southwest and were rendering medical aid to the driver, Evans, when police arrived. A 4-year-old male was inside the vehicle.
An empty alcohol container was found outside the vehicle, according to Krueger. A preliminary breath test issued to Evans allegedly showed her as having ingested almost twice the legal limit. Police obtained a search warrant to acquire a blood sample.
