ST. PAUL —The second year at state was twice as nice for GMLOKS senior Drew Lewison as he reached the podium in both of his hurdles races at the Minnesota Class A State Track and Field Meet in St. Paul Saturday.

Lewison, a senior, put a cap on his GMLOKS career with a second place finish in the 300-meter hurdles and a sixth place finish in the 110-meter hurdles. Last season, Lewison took fifth in the 300s and 12th in the 110s.

I was a lot less nervous than last year,” Lewison said. “It just felt like a normal race with faster people. I was really trying to catch the number one spot, but he’s a really fast kid.”

Lewison closed out fast in the final stretch of the 300-meter hurdles, but he wasn’t able to catch Reid Pierzinski of Pequot Lakes, who won the race with a time of 38.48 seconds. Lewison’s time of 39.25 seconds was a personal best time by nearly a half second.

“Seeing first place right next to you pushes you a lot more,” Lewison said.

Lewison finished with a time of 15.66 seconds in the 110s and Pierzinski won that race as well with a time of 14.84 seconds.

Lewison will continue to run at the college level at Minnesota State University next season.

I’m done with high school and it’s kind of sad to be done with that, but it’s exciting to look forward to do it in college as well,” Lewison said. “There’s better competition and it should be exciting.”
