Greg E. Thompson, 68

Greg E. Thompson, 68, of Remer, Minnesota, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at his home surrounded by his family.

Gregory Edwin Thompson was born on Aug. 24, 1949, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to Edwin and Ramona (Haseltroth) Thompson. He graduated from Austin High School in 1968. On June 22, 1973, Greg was united in marriage to MaryLou Newman in Austin. They made their home in Forest City, Iowa, where Greg was employed with Winnebago Corporation. They later moved to Austin and Greg worked for Wilson Food Corporation in Albert Lea, Minnesota, for a short time before beginning a long career with Hormel. Greg also owned and operated AB Taxi in Austin. He retired from Hormel in 2009 and from his taxi business in 2015. In 2016, Greg moved up north to Remer to enjoy the simple things in life; boat rides, fishing and bonfires. Greg will be missed dearly by his friends and family.

He is survived by his daughters, Jacqueline Thompson of Remer and Jessica (Nick) Danley of Akeley, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Jayden, Alex, Lilly, Lyla, Jeremy, Jonathan, Emilee, Mickela and Michael; three great-grandchildren, Addie, Ayla and Hazel; siblings, Gerald (Angie) Thompson of Lone Rock, Iowa, Darryll (Sue) Thompson of Austin, Diane (Ricardo) Valenzuela of Austin,  Bruce (Lynn) Thompson of Tacoma, Washington, and Nancy Vender of Sanford, North Carolina; father-in-law, John Newman of Austin; special friend, Linda Haugen of Albert Lea; brothers-in-law and his sister-in-law; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends; and his faithful companion, his dog Sadie. Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Ramona Thompson; wife, MaryLou in 2011; brother, Scot at infancy; and mother-in-law, Marilyn Newman.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2018, at Crane Community Chapel in Austin the Rev. Ed Brady officiating. Greg’s family will greet friends from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 24, 2018, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin and for one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.
