Austin VFW second in Blaine tourney

Austin VFW Post No. 1216 baseball team participated in the Blaine VFW Tournament this past weekend.
The team (7-4, 2-0 district) went 4-1 in the tournament, losing in the championship and taking second place
The first two games were pool play and Austin came out with the No. 1 seed.
On Friday Austin tied with Mounds/Shoreview, 7-7 after hiting the time limit. They were awarded win based on the tournament’s tiebreaker format.
They then defeated Champlin Park 11-1 later that same day.
In bracket play on Saturday they defeated Coon Rapids 7-0 and then defeated Champlin Park again on Sunday 4-2 before losing to Blaine in the championship 4-2.
“This was a very competitive VFW tournament and our ballplayers were up for the challenge,” said coach Joe Ciola. “It was a total team effort with strong pitching, solid defense and timely hitting throughout our line up which allowed us to go 4-11 over the weekend.”
