MC Senior Center: Caregiver group lends a hand

Published 8:31 am Monday, May 14, 2018

The Caregiver Support group meets every third Thursday of the month at 10:30 a.m. at the Mower County Senior Center. If you are taking care of a loved one, either a family member or friend, you are a caregiver. This support group is for you. It’s a chance for you to meet others just like you that are doing the same thing. You are welcomed to openly, confidentially, and freely voice your frustrations, your situations, and finally to know that you are not alone. There will be others that can offer support and maybe some advice.

It’s also a great opportunity for you to learn the most important part of care giving, taking care of you! Imagine you’re flying in an airplane and the oxygen masks come down, you’re going to have to put yours on before you’re able to assist anyone else. The same principle applies to care givers. If you don’t take care of yourself, you won’t be useful to anyone else.

It’s a confidential, non judgmental group of people just like you who unfortunately know what you’re going through. It’s hard enough to have to deal and adjust to a disease or sickness of a loved one, but then to be the one who has to face it every day, it can be challenging.

You don’t have to be a member and there is no cost to attend this group. There is no commitment and we encourage you to come check us out. If you have any questions please feel free to call Kate Christopherson 433-3462 or contact Nancy Donahue 433-8376.

You may not be old now, but if you’re lucky, one day you will be. We look forward to seeing you at our many programs at the Senior Center. Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1.00 & sandwich for 50¢. Tuesday, May 15th we are having Tator Tot Hotdish in the coffee shop for only $2.00. You are always welcome at the center. See you here!
