The first qualifier for the 2018 city fall deer hunt will be Saturday and Sunday at the Cedar River Archery Club, 54691 270th St. in Austin.

There will be a $5 fee per shooter to take the proficiency test, which will take place from an elevated platform at a distance of 20 yards.

Those interested only have one chance to qualify during the designated dates after this weekend: June 9-10, July 14-15 and Sept. 8-9. Tests are held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on all dates.

The archery club will run the events. You can pay a non-member fee and participate or join the club.

The city deer hunt was approved by the city of Austin to reduce a large deer population in city parks.
