Doris Taldine Hargis, 89

Doris Taldine (Snater) Hargis, 89, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, at her home.

She was born on July 30, 1928, to Ben and Agnes Snater of Hollandale, Minnesota. Doris attended and graduated from Austin Public Schools in 1946. After graduating, she worked in the payroll department of the Geo. A. Hormel Co. until she met and married John V. Hargis Jr. on June 24, 1950. From this union came one daughter, Sandra Kay. After staying home for 10 years, Doris returned to work in 1961, this time at the Austin State Bank. She worked in the banking business for 15 years. After leaving banking, she was recommended for a teaching position at Austin Vocational in the new banking program. Doris taught for two years, then ended her career sewing custom drapes at Wallace’s Drapery Department.

Sewing, crocheting and knitting were always part of Doris’s life. She made beautiful clothes, sweaters, coats, draperies and numerous other items, including covers for golf clubs. She loved to golf and was the one who brought John to the game. From then on, golf was their number one activity! Doris was a member of the Ladies Club of Ramsey Golf Course and, in later years, assisted with bookkeeping duties. She was a member of Fellowship Methodist Church and became a member of First Methodist after moving to the west side of Austin, Minnesota. After John passed in 1993, the church and its members became her primary interest. She was a member of Ladies Circle, participated annually in the church bazaar, served on the audit committee, Caring Ministries, Walk With Jesus project and assisted in sewing dolls and blankets for the Haitian mission project, plus numerous other craft items as needed.
