Best Bets: Learn about our past; Tour of Oakwood Cemetery on Sunday

The Hormel Historic Home and the Mower County Historical Society have partnered to offer another tour of Oakwood Cemetery on Sunday, June 3.

Tours will be offered at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. and each is an hour long.

This tour will focus on the lives of soldiers and will feature stories dating from the Civil War through Vietnam.

Jaimie Timm, curator at the MCHS, will lead groups of up to 15 people on an hour long journey through the lives of Mower County heroes.

Space is limited, so those interested as asked to so register at the Hormel Historic Home, or online at www.hormelhistorichome.org/calendartickets.html.

Cost is $8 for members of the Hormel Historic Home or MCHS and $10 for nonmembers. There is a limit of 15 per tour. Tickets are available at www.hormelhistorichome.org/calendar

• Storytime at the Austin Public Library, 10:30 a.m. Half-hour story time program for preschool age children accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Located in the Programming Room.

• Tech Tutor Time at the Austin Public Library, 1:30 p.m. Basic one-on-one computer tutoring provided for such things as setting up and using email, using web browsers, working in Google Docs or MS Word, searching the library’s collection, downloading eBooks, and assisting with projects in progress.  NOT able to deal with viruses, fix hardware issues or do intensive troubleshooting.  Bring your own device or use one of the library’s desktops. Friday

• Defensive Driving Class, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mower County Senior Center. This is the refresher course needed for the 10 percent premium discount on your driver’s insurance. Cost for members is $16, for non-members $19. For more information, call 507-433-2370.

• Three Rivers Flea Market, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mower County Fairgrounds. Annual event featuring vendors with antiques, collectibles, spices, jewelry, sports memorabilia, clothing, you name it. Free admission and free parking for the public. Sponsored by ADS Auctioneering & Appraisals. Vendor space still available. Set up is Friday, June 1. • Nathan and Jennifer Augustine Family Benefit, 4-8 p.m., St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1200 13th Ave. NW. Pulled pork dinner by free will offering, silent auction and bake sale. Proceeds will help the family pay medical bills stemming from four family members who have immune systems dysfunction.
