Baskin announces council run; Running for Ward 2 seat

Austin Human Rights Commission Chairman Jason Baskin announced on Tuesday that he is filing to run for the open Austin City Council Ward 2 seat to succeed the retiring Dave Hagen.

“I care deeply about our community, and want to make this the best place for my daughters to grow up in,” said Baskin, an Austin native. “The city of Austin has made significant strides over the years and I want to be part of the growth and development for the future.”

The campaign will focus on building a safe and strong community with an expanding tax base and improved housing supply.

Baskin grew up in Austin and is a high-distinction graduate of Austin High School. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota-Carlson School of Management and an MBA from the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He has been actively involved in the community as chairman of the Austin Human Rights Commission and member of APEX Austin, Austin ASPIRES, and a volunteer youth soccer coach. He works in marketing.

He and his wife, Katie, have two daughters, 5-year-old Ava and 2-year-old Olivia.

The last date to file for office is June 5.
