The Younkers store in Austin will begin holding its going-out-of business sales today, with the liquidation expected to run 10-12 weeks, said company officials on Thursday.

Younkers, as well as all 250 stores owned by Bon-Ton Stores, Inc., will close their doors following the auctioning off of its inventory and assets on Wednesday.

Despite attempts to find a bidder who would continue to run the business in a department store model, only liquidators bid on the bankrupt company earlier this week.

Younkers in Austin was a decades-long anchor store at Oak Park Mall, and became a free-standing store following the mall demolition and subsequent redevelopment by Hy-Vee, who built a new store in the area. Hy-Vee owns the Younkers building.

In addition to Younkers, Bon-ton operates stores under Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson’s, Elder-Beerman, and Herberger’s banners. Bon-Ton currently has 250 stores in 23 states. Thirty-eight of the stores are already in liquidation from a previously announced store closure process, according to a company press release.

The company’s stores, e-commerce and mobile platforms are open and serving customers. Additional customer information regarding the going-out-of-business sales is available on the Company’s restructuring website at bontonrestructuring.com.
