Mix media artist coming to Austin for classes

Published 9:20 pm Saturday, April 21, 2018

The Austin ArtWorks Center is expecting a visitor on April 28. This person has been to Austin before and co-owns Wyoming Machine, a sheet metal fabrication business, in Stacy, Minnesota.

The visitor earned a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Business and worked as an auditor for an accounting firm and an in-house accountant for a health care firm before taking over the family manufacturing business. I bet you have a pretty particular picture in your mind of this person based on that introduction.

But our visitor, Lori Tapani, is about to smash your preconceptions. Lori is coming to Austin to teach a mixed-media class called “Fun Fresh Florals: Expressionistic Painting” on Saturday, April 28. Lori will guide participants to use acrylics and collage elements to create a painting full of color and texture. Lori exhibited her work in the second floor gallery at the ArtWorks Center in fall 2017 and currently sells her artwork in the retail space.
