Anthony Michael Robert Johnson, 23, of Austin pleaded guilty to felony violating a domestic abuse no contact order as part of a plea agreement on Friday in Mower County District Court. He initially pleaded not guilty to the charge on March 12.

A second charge of felony violating a domestic abuse no contact order will be dismissed at the sentencing.

A Mapleview man who did construction work with Johnson told police Johnson had been using his cell phone to contact a woman that had a domestic assault no contact order against him. He installed a program that recorded calls on his cell phone because he did not “trust” Johnson. He played a recording to the police of Johnson speaking to the woman.

Johnson was arrested on Feb. 20 at a residence in the 400 block of Fourth Street Northwest, where police found him in the basement hiding behind a pile of laundry

Johnson pleaded guilty in a separate case on Jan. 29 to another charge of felony violating a domestic abuse no contact order from the same woman. In that case, police found that Johnson had made over 400 calls to her using calling cards she sent him after the domestic assault no contact order had been issued.

A review of Johnson’s criminal record shows prior convictions for domestic assault and third-degree assault.

Johnson will be sentenced for both cases on June 28.
